Description

Spider dens have been lurking below the surface of Virtual Scotland, waiting for the right moment to spring forth.

Requirements

You must meet the XP requirements for one of the locations that contains a trapdoor before you can travel to a spider den.

The minimum XP needed to hunt crystal spiders in normal locations is 700,000.

You can also hunt crystal spiders during celebration week special events in the North Pole with 2001 XP.

Trapdoor locations

The following locations have been identified as having a trapdoor to a spider den or to a named location where the crystal spiders can be found:

How it works

The spider den is a time-limited location that agents enter and leave via trapdoors in certain locations.

Each spider den (including the specifically named ones} may contain ghosts local to the corresponding trapdoor location, any special ghosts that are currently released, and monster ghosts (which monster ghosts depends on the type of cauldron and plasma in the player's setup). The primary monster ghosts in the basic spider dens are the crystal spiders.

Crystal spiders

The crystal spiders are monster ghosts.

Trapdoors

You must have one or more pieces of equipment in your setup or inventory that carry the trapdoor stat.

Move to one of the locations (shown above) that has a trapdoor and hunt until the trapdoor opens for you (you fall through the trapdoor).

Cauldron

You need either:

The type of cauldron and plasma you use affects which crystal spiders you attract. The table below shows which type of plasma attracts each crystal spider.

Make sure that whichever cauldron you use has an active piece of the plasma in it.

Other stats

Once you have fallen through the trapdoor, you should switch setups.

The crystal spiders need a lot of assist clicks. Try to add as much monsterslayer, loot chance multiplier, and malty mist/sanguine scent/rhombus red light (depending on your cauldron) to your setup as you can.

Hunt

Then you must hunt til you attract one of the crystal spiders. Once you have attracted a crystal spider, you must post it to the livefeed to gather assist clicks, just like the other monsters.

Once you have received the assist clicks you need, you will finally capture the crystal spider.

Besides the crystal spiders you will also find the local ghosts from the location your trapdoor is in.

Timing

Once you fall through a trapdoor, you have one hour to attract and hold crystal spiders.

If you add items with the oblivion stat to your setup while you are looking for the trapdoor, you will be able to stay in the spider den for a longer time. Once you have gone through the trapdoor, you can swap your setup for one with more monsterslayer to catch the crystal spiders or other local monsters (i.e., the Santa monsters at the North Pole more quickly.

One trapdoor trip per encounter

Once you fall through a trapdoor, you are there until your time expires unless you decide you want to leave earlier.

If you leave the spider den early, you do not get to make another trip through the trapdoor until you find another trapdoor as described above.

The other ghosts that may be found in a spider den are listed on the trapdoor location's page, and on the monster ghost, season special ghost page, and other special ghosts pages.

Loot

Loot is occasionally dropped in the spider den (and in all non-raiding locations) by the local ghosts, by special ghosts and by all of the ghost monsters (original, elemental, jurassic monsters, vampire lords and ladies, and the knights of the round table).

As experienced players, agents of S.C.O.T.C.H. hunting in Spider den will recognize that which ghosts drop which loot can change without notice. If you have a loot drop not mentioned here, please let the wiki sysop know so that a correction can be made.

Plasma (of all sorts), chrono crystal fragments, magic potions (including Nessy's Golden Reserve), and some companions are all occasionally dropped here. See the loot page for information about the loot items that are widely available in Virtual Scotland.

Mockery loot

If you have the mockery stat in your setup (through the talent tree bonus or because of an accessory, companion or contract with the stat} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 mocktails added to other loot drops from the ghosts in spider den. Because these mockery stat drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the mocktails are included in any loot lists for spider den. The entire list of possible mocktails that may be dropped is on the mocktails page.

Mockery drops can be distinguished from a normal loot drop as follows:

A standard loot drop of a mocktail     5x Cherry bomb
A mockery loot drop of a mocktail     5 Devil driver

Snowflake loot

If you have the snowfall stat in your setup (because of an accessory, companion or contract with the stat), ghosts in the spider den may occasionally and randomly drop you a snowflake as loot. Because these snowfall-driven drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, snowflake loot drops are not specifically included in any lists on this page or on the individual ghost pages.

Vintage connoissesur loot

If you have the vintage connoisseur stat in your setup (through an accessory, companion or contract with the stat} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 bottles of a non-Nessy's loot potion or of Shadetouch blue or Shadetouch purple added to other loot drops in Spider den. Because these connoisseur drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the non-Nessy's loot potions involved are included in the loot list above. The entire list of possible bottles that can be dropped is found on the non-Nessy's loot potions page.

Both normal drops of a particular non-Nessy's loot potion and connoisseur drops of a particular loot potion show the same way in your journal:

16 x Shadetouch purple (10 bonus loot)
