Description


Game buffs are special enhancements to the game that run for a short period of time (generally 24 hours) as a reward to the Ghost Trappers community for having worked together to complete a common goal.

The game buffs that give you a greater chance of attracting a special ghost do just that — they give you a greater chance of seeing that ghost than you would normally have. The odds are still overwhelmingly in favor of you not attracting that ghost ... if the normal chance of attracting a Cu Sith for example, are about 1 in 100, then with the Leader of the pack game buff in effect, the chances that you would attract a Cu Sith would be 3/100 on each hunt, and the chances that you would not attract that ghost would be 97/100.

Some buffs release a special ghost while some other buffs increase the chances of your attracting a special ghost. The fact that during one of these buffs
• you do not attract a special ghost, or
• the special you attract does not drop the companion you want,
does not mean that the buff is not working.

It just means that the luck factor didn't tilt in your favor.

Arcane supremacy

  • Adds +5 mystic power bonus to all agents' trap set-ups for a defined period (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 15 February 2010.



Bad omen

Blowtorch

  • Adds +5 thawing to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018



Blue moon

  • Adds +3 beta-ray blue to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



Call of the malt

  • Adds +3 raw power bonus, +3 mystic power bonus, +1 attraction bonus to all agents' trap set-ups and also reduces their hunting cooldown by 1 minute (−1 min).
    Agents with a 2-minute cooldown or a 1.5 minute cooldown time will see no change from this buff (the 2-minute cooldown is an absolute minimum unless you have the nitro booster in your setup). Agents with a 3-minute cooldown time will see a 1 minute reduction in their cooldown time, again, unless they have the nitro booster in their setups.
  • First activated 4 February 2010.



Close to the sun

Game buffs-To the sun.png
  • Releases the Icarus ghost for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 21 January 2014, as To the sun.



Cohesion

  • Adds +3 ghost glue to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



Cryptology

  • Adds 3 scribe to all agents' trap setups for a defined period.
  • First shown 18 September 2013, but was not actually activated.



Dark portents

Dark portents
  • Adds +3 odd odor to all agents' trap setups for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • Introduced 18 July 2018.



Dimensional rift

  • When dimensional rift happens, rifts through space open a portal that releases raging demon ghosts.
  • First activated 28 December 2009.



Double buff

Double buff    
  • Adds 10% XP bonus and 10% cash bonus to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



Eat the rich

Eat the rich    
  • Adds +3 gold dust to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



Eternal watcher

Eternal watcher    
  • Adds 1 gargoyle's touch to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



Ether distortion

  • When ether distortion happens, rifts through space open a portal that releases ethereal ghosts.
  • First activated 23 December 2009.



Ether wormhole

Fortuna frequency

  • Adds 1.5x loot chance multiplier to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • 16 December 2009: First activated for a period of 48 hours.
  • 2 November 2011: First activated with x2 loot chance multiplier.

  • Adds 3 valiant vapor to all agents' trap setups for a defined period of time.
  • First activated 25 September 2013.



I need a hero

  • Adds +5 malty mist to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 16 June 2010 with +2; 23 September 2010 activated with +5.



Irish influence

  • Adds 3 leprechaun's luck to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).



Leader of the pack

  • Adds additional affection points to any affection points you gain when offering a gift to a companion for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours). At different times the added affection points were 2 and 3.

  • Adds a 2% chance of attracting a Selkie on each hunt, regardless of bait, to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours). Nessy's Golden Reserve are not necessary as bait during this buff — you can use any bait at all.

Mysterious glow

Paradise paradigm

  • Gives a slight additional chance of attracting a rainbow ghost for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 19 July 2010.



Particle emission

  • For 24 hours, Particle emission adds a 20% XP bonus for ghosts caught on hunts you start. This bonus does not apply to friend-led hunts or auto-hunts.

Secret combination

  • Adds +10 security measures to all players' setups for 24 hours, decreasing the chance that thieving ghosts will be able to steal from you.
  • First activated 6 November 2012.



Secret passage

  • Adds a small percentage chance of falling through a trapdoor to your setup if you are in one of the locations that has a trapdoor to a spider den —Castle McKenny, Count Church, Kirkyard Cemetery, Dreadmoor, or Gloamin Tower—for a defined period of time, usually 24 hours.
    Secret passage also works when you are trying to fall through a trapdoor to one of the named locations that can be at the end of that trapdoor path.
  • First activated 15 April 2014.



Sky captain

  • Adds a small percentage chance of activating sky jump to your setup, for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 17 February 2015.



Smiley

  • Adds +3 happymaker to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 1 August 2018.




Stampede

  • Adds a 2% chance of attracting a Kelpie on each hunt, regardless of bait, to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours). Nessy's Golden Reserve are not necessary as bait during this buff — you can use any bait at all.
  • First activated 2 March 2010.



Sunrays

  • Adds 3 infrayellow light to all hunters' trap setups for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 22 May 2012.



Tachyon waves

  • Adds +5 raw power to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 30 November 2009 (first common goal buff).



Temporal flux

  • Subtracts 2 minutes from all hunters' cooldown times for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
    Agents with a 2-minute cooldown time will see no change from this buff (the 2-minute cooldown is an absolute minimum). Agents with a 3-minute cooldown time will see a 1 minute reduction in their cooldown time.
  • First activated 11 December 2009.



Theta radiation

  • Adds +20% GTP bonus to all hunters' trap set-ups for a defined period of time (usually but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 8 December 2009.



Under a red moon

Under a red sun

  • First activated 15 May 2012.



Waterhose

  • Adds +3 extinguish to your setup for a defined period of time (usually, but not always, 24 hours).
  • First activated 2018.



History


  • 30 November 2009: The first game buff was applied after a successful completion of the first common goal.
  • 19 June 2018: A new group of game buffs were added.
