| Phantom Castle
You must have at least 350,000,000 XP and 175,000,000 £££ to travel to Phantom Castle. Once you have made this one-time payment, you will be able to travel freely between Phantom Castle and other locations you have unlocked.
Like the Dark Dimension, Phantom Castle contains a challenge before you can progress ...In the Phantom Castle, you must collect the pieces of The Emerald Sword so that the Shifted temptress ghost will drop the real thing for you as loot.
Once you have The Emerald Sword in your inventory, you will be able to take the trapdoor to the Fairy pools.
For convenience, the monsters of the fairy pool are included in the ghost tables below.
Phantom Castle has a trapdoor to the fairy pools, where monsters lurk.
If you fall through the trapdoor you have a chance to attract these monsters with an active sacred cauldron in your setup.
You will still also be attracting the usual range of ghosts that can appear in Phantom Castle in addition to the monsters you will be hunting.
Secret ghosts first
Focus your attention on the secret ghosts first (turn off midnight attraction, disarm your cauldron, and do all the other things that can increase your chance of attracting a secret ghost.
Then hope you get lucky and that they drop their various parts of the sword quickly and easily.
Simultaneously with secrets
You will still be catching other ghosts while you are focused on the secret ghosts. Optimize your setup for either the midnight ghosts or the normal ghosts, and then play accordingly. Use the second table below to group the ghosts by type (nornal/midnight) to see what loot you are searching for from each of them.
Normal ghosts here drop useful loot and souvemirs, and you can go after them until you have all their loot.
Turn off midnight attraction (enable the spotlight accessory if you have it), dis-arm your cauldron, use a high raw set-up (remember that almost all of these ghosts are mystic resistant, and brute force and willpower don't seem to help much, if at all).
For looking for the midnight ghosts along with the secrets, make sure that your midnight attraction setup is as high as possible, to maximize the number of midnight ghosts you see.
Once you have all the loot from the secrets
Turn off your camera to reduce the number of secret ghosts that you attract. When you are not in the fairy pools turn off your cauldron too (just arm a cauldron that does not have an active piece of plasma in it).
There are local normal ghosts, midnight, secret, and monster ghosts in Phantom Castle. Here is some information about the ones you may find.
Normal, Midnight, Secret, and location-specific ghosts
Special mythic creature, monster, gift, and seasonal ghosts can also be trapped in Phantom Castle, since they can be found in all non-raiding, non-AV locations in Virtual Scotland.
The special mythic-creature ghosts include such Nessy's-loving ghosts as Ghost Nessy, Banshee ghost, Cu Sith, Kelpie, Selkie, Glowing Ghost Nessy, Shrieking banshee ghost, Howling Cu Sith, Luring Kelpie, Moonlight Selkie, Glaistig ghost and Green glaistig ghost.
The monsters you may attract in Phantom Castle include the original monsters as well as the jurassic and dino monsters, the elemental monsters, the blood cauldron monsters, the sacred monsters (also known as the sacred monsters), the techno monsters, the alien monsters, and some golden monsters... whew! It's easier just to refer to the monsters.
Gift ghosts are ghosts you will only catch if a fellow agent sends one to you. The gift ghosts that are currently available and that can be caught in Phantom Castle include:
During the Christmas holiday season, the Christmas elf ghost is also available for friends to gift to other friends.
Seasonal special ghosts
To find out when (and which) seasonal ghosts may be available next in Phantom Castle, check out the 2018 seasonal special ghost calendar.
Region-specific special ghost
The shifted temptress ghost, shown above as a special ghost, is considered a special ghost because it is so difficult to catch.
Loot is occasionally dropped in Phantom Castle (and in all non-raiding locations) by the local ghosts, by special ghosts and by all of the ghost monsters (original, elemental, jurassic, blood, sacred, techno, and alien monsters).
As experienced players, agents of S.C.O.T.C.H. hunting in Phantom Castle will recognize that which ghosts drop which loot can change without notice. If you have a loot drop not mentioned here, please let the wiki sysop know so that a correction can be made.
Plasma (of all sorts), chrono crystal fragments, magic potions (including Nessy's Golden Reserve), and some companions are all occasionally dropped here. See the loot page for information about the loot items that are widely available in Virtual Scotland.
Phantom Castle-specific loot
Specific items of loot that are dropped in Phantom Castle include:
Special items to be combined
The special items required to advance your progress toward the emerald sword (shown in the order you must collect them, each with the secret ghost that drops that item:
If you have the snowfall stat in your setup (because of a bait, companion or contract with the stat on it), the phantom castle may occasionally and randomly drop you a snowflake as loot. Because these snowfall-driven drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, snowflake loot drops are not specifically included in the list above.
If you have the mockery stat in your setup from a bait, companion or contract with the stat (or any other type of equipment} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 mocktails added to other loot drops from the phantom castle. Because these mockery drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the mocktails are included in the loot list above. The entire list of possible mocktails that may be dropped is on the mocktails page.
Mockery stat drops can be distinguished from a normal loot drop as follows:
Vintage connoisseur loot
If you have the vintage connoisseur stat in your setup (through a companion or contract or other piece of equipment with the stat} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 bottles of a non-Nessy's loot potion or of Shadetouch blue or Shadetouch purple added to other loot drops from the phantom castle. Because these connoisseur drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the non-Nessy's loot potions involved are included in the loot list above. The entire list of possible bottles that can be dropped is found on the non-Nessy's loot potions page.
Both normal drops of a particular non-Nessy's loot potion and connoisseur drops of a particular loot potion show the same way in your journal:
16 x Shadetouch purple (10 bonus loot)
At the bar in S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ in Phantom Castle, Charles the bartender is not selling any of the vintage bait you are familiar with, nor is he selling any recipes.
He can offer you a refund on bottles of Highland Pride if you'd like.
However, Charles is always ready to help with your mixology needs, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Just bring him the magic potion and the appropriate mixer, and Charles will have a batch of your favorite mocktails ready for you almost instantaneously.
