Description

Don't bother looking east, west or south for this one as it can only be found in the North, the farther north the better!

No theft risk

There is no risk that the north star (at the north pole) will steal GTP (£££), XP, bait, or ghost plasma if you fail to catch it.

Additional information

Souvenirs required

You must have completed and displayed the Star collection of souvenirs before you can attract the North star}.

Location

The North star can be captured only during Celebration week special events in region 1, Dumfries and Galloway, at the North Pole.

Light

The North star can only be seen in ultraviolet light. Stack your setup, including your camera, with lenses and other equipment with uv light if you are trying to take a picture of the north star (at the north pole).

Mystic resistance

The North star is resistant to mystic power.

Mystic-resistant ghosts have three primary types:

  • Ghosts that can be caught with a strong raw-power setup
  • Ghosts that can only be caught with a combination of willpower (to overcome their mystic resistance) and high mystic power
  • Ghosts that require brute force in your setup to activate before they can be caught

Use a high mystic power, high willpower setup when you are trying to catch the North star (at the North Pole).

Brute force may also strengthen your setup when you are trying to catch the North star.

The North star can be caught with a high raw power setup. Your setup does not require high willpower (force of will), although those things do not hurt your setup!

Extinguish

The North star might be on fire when you attract it.

The best way to catch an on-fire North star is to have the extinguish stat in your setup, and for that extinguish stat to activate and dampen down that North star so that your trap setup has a chance against it.

You can also catch an on-fire North star if the brute force stat is in your setup and activates.

There is no way to catch an on-fire North star with just a high raw power setup (and no extinguish or brute force) or with just a high mystic power setup (and no extinguish or brute force).

Keep your fire extinguisher ready!

Drops

The North star has been known to occasionally drop one or more of the following items of ghost loot:

Snowflake loot

If you have the snowfall stat in your setup (because of a bait, companion or contract with the stat on it), the North star may occasionally and randomly drop you a snowflake as loot. Because these snowfall-driven drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, snowflake loot drops are not specifically included in the list above.

Mockery loot

If you have the mockery stat in your setup from a bait, companion or contract with the stat (or any other type of equipment} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 mocktails added to other loot drops from the North star. Because these mockery drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the mocktails are included in the loot list above. The entire list of possible mocktails that may be dropped is on the mocktails page.

Mockery stat drops can be distinguished from a normal loot drop as follows:

A standard loot drop of a mocktail     5x Cherry bomb
A mockery stat-caused loot drop of a mocktail     5 Devil driver

Vintage connoisseur loot

If you have the vintage connoisseur stat in your setup (through a companion or contract or other piece of equipment with the stat} you may occasionally have between 2 and 10 bottles of a non-Nessy's loot potion or of Shadetouch blue or Shadetouch purple added to other loot drops from the North star. Because these connoisseur drops are so dependent on a player's individual setup and cannot be relied upon, none of the non-Nessy's loot potions involved are included in the loot list above. The entire list of possible bottles that can be dropped is found on the non-Nessy's loot potions page.

Both normal drops of a particular non-Nessy's loot potion and connoisseur drops of a particular loot potion show the same way in your journal:

16 x Shadetouch purple (10 bonus loot)

Counterparts

The North star is part of the Christmas stars collection.

Bait

Baits that might help attract the North star (because these baits will add uv light to your setup) include:

History

  • 19 December 2016: The North star was first seen in Virtual Scotland'.
