You only see a message in your ghost journal about brute force after it has been used to cause the capture of a particular ghost.
Brute force-only ghosts
Some ghosts can only be captured through the actions of brute force. Even 1 brute force can ensure that you capture that difficult ghost—it just has to activate! Obviously, the larger the chance you have to activate brute force, the better your chances of catching a particularly difficult ghost.
You will sometimes see that brute force has activated to capture a ghost that your setup would defeat, even without the use of brute force. This is part of normal gameplay. You cannot control when brute force is activated, you can only control the equipment that you put into a particular setup.
You can get a +1 brute force augmentation either from the normal augmentations list or through the supergroup two augmentations.
It is also possible to receive more than one brute force augmentation on a single companion (although this is very rare).
The following pieces of equipment will add the brute force stat to your setup:
- 13 August 2014: The brute force stat began appearing on equipment in Ghost Trappers and being referenced in ghost hunts in the hunting journal.
- 19 August 2014: Two new collections, both of which have the brute force stat on them, first appeared in the Exhibition on the 9th floor of S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ.
