Luring ghosts

You need to have something in your trap set-up to attract the attention of a ghost ... it's the bait!

Most ghosts love magic potions. Therefore, magic potions and special edition magic potions make great bait for your trap.

Different kinds of bait have different stats. That means that for certain kinds of goals or tasks, there may be one bait that is better than another for what you are trying to accomplish.

You can compare all the bait on the all bait compared page.

For those ghosts who prefer their potions mixed, blended, or garnished, you will be able to mix your magic potions supplies with mixers to create mocktails. You can also get certain mocktails as part of special mission rewards, or through mockery loot drops or during special events.

Once you've reached Region 2 Borders in the game, you will also be able to acquire different recipes.

Mocktails and their recipes gained as mission rewards, as daily rewards incentives, or as donation thank-yous can be used anywhere, at any time, even in Dumfries and Galloway.

Simple bait

And for the few ghosts who prefer a simpler potion, there's always Maß malt juice!!

Attraction rate

Every type of bait in the game has an attraction rating, which is shown in its statistics. Those ratings range from "Very low" to "Partylicious" to "Very high".

The more promising the attraction rating is, the more (or more difficult) ghosts that are going to be attracted to that bait.

Attraction rate is different from the attraction bonus that you get from contracts, companions, collection bonuses, and accessories.

What bait attracts what ghost?

We can't give you a list that says "If you want to attract ghost X, use bait Y." Things just don't work quite that way.

We can tell you that if you're trying to catch a ghost that is one of the weaker ghosts in its location, first try one of the weaker magic potions you have available.

We can tell you that if you're getting a lot of FTA (failure to attract) messages in a particular location, you may want to try boosting the strength or rarity of your bait.

We can tell you that if you're having a lot of your bait stolen by ghosts or losing it to Angel's share, your trap set-up may be a bit weak for your location, and that you might be better off using a weaker bait, so that you're attracting weaker ghosts that may be easier for you to catch. Or, you might want to move back a location, or to change your setup to one that is higher, for example, in mystic power if you can.

We can (and do!) tell you which ghosts are only attracted by the Nessy's family of bait.

We can also tell you which ghosts are primarily attracted by mocktails.

Failure to attract

Your bait failed to attract a ghost" is always a discouraging message to get!

If your bait is regularly generating this message for you, you probably need to use a bait with a higher attraction level. The bait comparison page allows you to sort all of the current bait in (general) order of their attraction levels.

Barkeeper talent tree

Several of the talents in the barkeeper talent tree are bait-related. Those talents include:

  • Member of the bartenders guild : Reduces the cost of recipes purchased from the bar on the first floor of S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ by 25%
  • Mocktail mastery: Increases the number of mocktails made in each set by 1 — or by 2 if you use Nessy's to make your mocktails
  • Mockery: Gives a chance to add a drop of 2–10 mocktails to any loot drop

Bait types

There are a bunch of different ways of grouping and listing different bait. In some ways, all bait falls into the "magic potion" grouping ... but that doesn't show some particular differences.

Here's one set of options:

Magic potions

Magic potions and Special edition magic potions

Magic potions can refer either to the simple magic potions that you can purchase from the bar at S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ or to all of the non-mocktail bait.

Special edition magic potions

Special edition magic potions you can have dropped as ghost loot, receive as a special mission rewards or through trading with other players.

Some ghosts prefer their potions mixed, blended, or garnished.

Mocktails you can make yourself or purchase some from Lady Ayumi Bayoushi's shop on the 9th floor of S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ. Recipes can be purchase at the bar beginning in R2, can be received as daily rewards, or gained as a donation thank-you.

A good ghost-trapper wants to be prepared to concoct whatever special potions are required to fit a situation. Juices and other mixers are dropped as loot, or can be purchased from the Tradepost or from Lady Ayumi Bayoushi's shop on the 9th floor of S.C.O.T.C.H. HQ.

Nessy's Golden Reserve and Shadetouch family

You can acquire these special magic potions by making a donation to support the future development of Ghost Trappers or by trading with another agent of S.C.O.T.C.H.

Compare the bait!

Bait comparison is an important wiki page to be aware of. It shows you all of the current bait in the game, and shows you which bait has which stat (and how much of each stat. As you develop strategies in the game, this information can be important!
